All Saints Church Quinquennial Church Inspections
– Quinquennial Church Inspections
The 2015 quinqiennial report identified serious weathering to the parapet stonework to the entrance of the church. The front of the church is a well used public domain and falling stonework would constitute a serious health hazard. The parapets are at least 16 metres above the pavement and therefore difficult to survey and even more difficult to repair. The decision was taken to scaffold the entire front façade and commission Chichester Stoneworks to replace the defective balusters and pinnacles.
Building conservation is a difficult balance between retention of original, high cost of repair and the safety of the building users and the general public.
