– Southampton Docks Container Terminal
Axis Architecture was commissioned to design a stores extension with offices over and a raised hi-bay with internal refurbishment for Dean & Dyball Construction on a ‘design and build’ basis. Much needed additional two storey office space and changing facilities were added to the side. The external façade of the new works is in keeping with that of the remaining structure and surrounding buildings – with external profiles and colours being sympathetic to the Container Terminals’ corporate image.
The existing maintenance shed was to remain operational during the construction process causing various health and safety issues. Careful consideration to the removal of existing asbestos cladding panels was needed ensure the maintenance bays could remain in operation, minimising disruption on-site.
