Sample of Healthcare Work
The Elizabeth Foundation
The Elizabeth Foundation provides testing and support services for children with auditory impairments. The Charity required additional office space, a new lift, kitchen facilities and multi-use spaces for its continued growth and expansion. Axis Architecture provided a full
service carefully guiding the project from inception, through to forming a comprehensive brief, gaining planning permission, and leading the project through to completion in 2014.
Design Development
From a careful analysis of the Client’s requirements an extension was designed that
provided first floor office space and a large, flexible multi-use space that could be hired out
or used for conferences on the ground floor. The split single and two-storey form of the
extension successfully linked the split levels of the original building with a carefully
positioned platform lift and helped to break up the mass of whole extension.
The Challenges
The funding arrangements and budget requirements were tight throughout the project and Axis was flexible in the services it provided to the client. Value-engineering of the design the design evolved the form of the extension into the square corner with stepped window detail from an original curved design. The project was also phased to allow the first floor offices and entire shell-and-core to be built, while the fit-out of the ground floor was postponed until further funding is available.
The project presented a challenge with respect to funding arrangements, programming, and construction requirements. However, Axis’ expertise in all stages of construction projects allowed the project to run relatively smoothly and provided the Elizabeth Foundation with a building to be proud of.
