Chandlers Ford House
Axis Architecture was commissioned to remodel an old and dated chalet bungalow
near Eastleigh. The brief included full architectural services and full interior design
services, to transform the look of the property into a modern and quirky cottage-style
interiors.
The Proposal
To deliver the brief, Axis introduced the use of large oak beams throughout the house,
creating a rustic feel that could be contrasted by a black & white design, edgy wall
papers and perforated panels, creating shadows and transparencies as room dividers
and window covers.
The Challenges
The project did not come with no challenge, as the client’s budget was below the sum
required to deliver the outstanding high specification. Some clever thinking, re-design,
re-purposing had to be implemented to avoid heavy cost savings that would hinder the
final result.
Additional structural requirements became apparent as the works opened up the
existing walls and ceilings, revealing that virtually all internal walls, studs or block alike,
were loadbearing, supporting the floor joists above. Some cuts had to be made
affecting the landscape design of the proposal but the client maintained the interior
design budget intact.
Completed Project:
The works were completed in March 2023 when the mortgage valuation revealed that
the value of the property had doubled as a result of the works. The invested funds
were well spent as we looked after our clients best interest and helped delivering a
very cost effective but outstanding project.
